Conservancy ProgramPart of our commitment to the land is to ensure that its resources and natural beauty are protected for the enjoyment of future generations. The Grizzly Ranch Conservancy is a non-profit organization that functions as guardian to the land and an educational resource to the public. Habitat preservation and restoration is the Conservancy’s primary task, but expanding the Grizzly Ranch experience, through the development of interpretive facilities and gathering areas around the property, is also an important aspect of its mandate. Through the Conservancy and its work, residents are able to enjoy the land in its natural state and learn about its diverse and intricate ecology. Underway for 2007 is the creation of Beckwourth Crossing, a two-acre alpine garden located above the 6th fairway which will showcase native wildflowers, trees and grasses. The experience of the garden interlaces botanic learning with the human story of the Sierras. Visitors will not only learn about indigenous plants and ecosystems, but also about the Native Americans, pioneers and settlers who first lived in the area. An amphitheater for events and lectures, a fire pit and a replica of the original Jim Beckwourth cabin, built by the mountain pioneer in 1850, will create an interactive environment. Also in the works this year is the development of a nature trail, picnic area and dock at Grizzly Creek, transforming a once underutilized area into a fantastic family gathering place. |
